What's the Difference Between Coaching, Therapy and Councelling?
This is a very common question. Coaching, therapy, and counselling all offer valuable support, but they have different focuses and approaches. Below is an overview to help you navigate what is right for you.
Coaching: Coaching is future-focused and action-oriented. A Coach will work with you to identify what you want and what is important to you ie your goal. Together you will develop strategies to help you reach your goal. You will work out patterns, beliefs or relationship dynamics that may be holding you back. A Coach will provide accountability and support as you navigate the path forward. Coaching is particularly useful if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or want to conquer challenges in your personal or professional life. It helps you build confidence, develop skills, and create a plan to live a more fulfilling and organised life.
Therapy: Therapy often focuses on healing from past experiences, emotional issues, or mental health conditions. Therapists are trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders and help individuals process emotions, trauma, and unresolved issues. The aim is often to provide insight, understanding, and coping mechanisms for managing mental and emotional well-being.
Counselling: Counselling can overlap with both coaching and therapy. It often focuses on specific issues or challenges, such as relationship difficulties, grief, or stress management. Counsellors provide guidance, advice, and a safe space to talk through your feelings and concerns. Like therapy, it may delve into past experiences, but it can also include practical strategies and tools for managing current issues.
In essence, therapy and counselling focus on understanding and healing from your past, while coaching is geared towards actionable steps to move forward. Coaching helps you uncover and address self-limiting beliefs and behaviours from the past, but its primary goal is to help you achieve your desired future. If you’re looking to navigate life more effectively, overcome overwhelm, and create lasting change, coaching could be a great fit for you!
What Qualifications and Training do You Have?
I am a trained and certified Coach accredited by the Association for Coaching (ACCT). This means I follow the ethics, guidelines and competencies of an Internationally recognised organisation. I hold an accredited Diploma in Transformational Coaching with the Mindful Talent Academy. I have regular coaching supervision and work with my own Coach and Therapist.
Coaching is unregulated and there are many different types and approaches. Check credentials, experience and approaches with any Coach you consider working with.
What is Your Approach to Coaching?
My coaching approach is holistic and intuitive, focusing on the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. As a transformational coach, I believe that real, lasting change happens when we address all aspects of life and align them with your authentic self. Together, we will navigate the challenges and uncover what’s holding you back from feeling content, confident, empowered, and balanced. With a combination of intuitive guidance and practical strategies, we will explore your inner landscape, reconnect with your unique strengths, and empower you to reclaim your life with purpose, joy and a sense of inner peace.
