What's the Difference Between a Life Coach and a Therapist?
Life coach vs Therapist? This is a very common question. Coaching, therapy, and counselling all offer valuable support, but they have different focuses and approaches. Below is an overview to help you navigate what is right for you.
Coaching: Coaching is future-focused and action-oriented and measurable. A Coach will work with you to identify what you want and what is important to you ie your goal. Together you will develop strategies to help you reach your goal. You will work out patterns, beliefs or relationship dynamics that may be holding you back. A Coach will provide accountability and support as you navigate the path forward. A Coach will offer time to reflect and measure your progress ensuring you are always moving forward. Coaching is particularly useful if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or want to conquer challenges in your personal or professional life. It helps you create empowering habits, develop a serving mindset and skills and create a plan to live a more fulfilling life.
Therapy: Therapy often focuses on healing from past experiences, emotional issues, or mental health conditions. Therapists are trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders and help individuals process emotions, trauma, and unresolved issues. The aim is often to provide insight, understanding, and coping mechanisms for managing mental and emotional well-being.

Counselling: Counselling can overlap with both coaching and therapy. It often focuses on specific issues or challenges, such as relationship difficulties, grief, or stress management. Counsellors provide guidance, advice, and a safe space to talk through your feelings and concerns. Like therapy, it may delve into past experiences, but it can also include practical strategies and tools for managing current issues.
In essence, therapy and counselling focus on understanding and healing from your past, while coaching is geared towards actionable and measurable steps to move forward. Coaching helps you uncover and address self-limiting beliefs and behaviours from the past, but its primary goal is to help you achieve your desired future. If you’re looking to navigate life more effectively, overcome overwhelm, and create lasting change, coaching could be a great fit for you!
What Qualifications and Training do You Have?
I am a trained and certified Coach accredited by the Association for Coaching (ACCT). This means I follow the ethics, guidelines and competencies of an Internationally recognised organisation. I hold an accredited Diploma in Transformational Coaching with the Mindful Talent Academy. I have regular coaching supervision and work with my own Coach and Therapist.
Coaching is unregulated and there are many different types and approaches. Check credentials, experience and approaches with any Coach you consider working with.
What is Your Approach to Coaching?
My coaching approach is holistic, focusing on you as a whole person—mind and body. As a transformational Coach, I believe that real, lasting change happens when we create change from the inside and out.
I don’t just talk things through—I help you change what’s actually happening in the moment.
We start by slowing things down so you can notice what’s going on inside you—through your body, your breath, and your reactions.
We also look at where your patterns come from. Many of the ways you respond today—people pleasing, staying in control, bottling things up—started a long time ago. So part of the work is gently going back and changing that relationship with yourself.
This isn’t about superficial fixes. It’s about creating real, lasting change in how you feel, how you respond, and how you show up in your life.
Do You Only Coach Parents?
No, I don’t only coach parents. I have successfully coached women and men who are not parents and my door is open to all adults.
